Electric tumble dryer doesn’t spin, smells like burning when on, but belt is okay!

August 29th, 2010 by admin

Is my dyer beyond repair? My dryer is a very, very old model. Probably over 20 years old and definitely out of warranty. Recently it stopped spinning and when it's turned on it makes a really disgusting smell, kind of like burning. When it first broke down, when you looked inside you could see that the metal behind the barrel (looking through the vents) was red hot. I've already taken the dryer apart and found that the dyer belt is in working order. It's wrapped around the barrel very tightly and it's properly fastened to the motor and pulley at the bottom. What could be wrong with my dryer? Financially would I be better off buying a new dryer, or trying to have this old model fixed? Also, what if if it's not my dryer that's broken. What if it's the outlet that is malfunctioning? The dryer is getting power from it.. but could something still be wrong with the outlet?

Kenmore dryer model 110-7732501 will not work after replacing thermosat

August 25th, 2010 by admin

While changing a thermostat on my Kenmore dryer, I inadvertently left the wires off the thermal fuse (after checking for continuity). As I started the dryer to check it out sparks flew and now it does nothing. The 2 thermal fuse wires were touching the metal vent. Does anyone know what this might have affected? Before I Bozo-ed this repair job the dryer was running but not heating. Now it does not run and even the light in the drum will not come on. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

If you were going to go purchase a brand new washer and dryer today, what would you choose to…

…buy?
My Kenmore Elite Washer and (gas) Dryer have serviced me well for 20 years! But in the last six months I've had two service calls for the dryer. It may be time to retire these trusty models out for something new. The “guy” comes this afternoon and I will decide, based upon the cost and the problem, if I'll repair or replace. I'm inclined to return to Kenmore because – well 20 YEARS! with no service calls is a good long time! But I'd like input from others as well. Not stackable – just side by side, and the dryer needs to be gas.

Help, my dryer isn’t drying clothes!

I have cleaned out vent behind dryer, even gone up with long shop vac hose and removed built up lint. I have cleaned out dryer below dryer lint trap and removed all built up lint there as well. I have gone thru the outside vent opening with vac and got nothing…even after tried blowing from inside to outside vent and ran a snake thru several times. Dryer works EXCELLENT until I connect back to wall vent. I have tried 4-5 times over the last weeks to see if more lint is blocking, not getting any more. I'm trying everything I can do first before having to resort to calling repair. Thank you
It's not a gas dryer

How do I repair my Washer/Dryer is it the brushes?

August 15th, 2010 by admin

Whilst in a wash cycle the drum stopped turning. I took the top off the machine and gave the motor a whack, it started turning again but with a lot of blue/white sparks. Does this mean the brushes need replaced? and is it just a case of pulling the old ones out and pushing the new ones in. it is a hotpoint with an AC motor type 904/1158/11

Why is there no heat on my dryer

August 12th, 2010 by admin

It's a gas dryer, and there is no heat, just air. I'm a pretty handy guy with technical stuff and household repairs, but I have never tinkered with dryers before. Where should I start and what could be some possible problems? Thanks.

Anyone have problems with Maytag Bravos Dryer

August 10th, 2010 by admin

Got mine in 2008. Problems ever since. For a Xtra capacity dryer it has the lint screen the size of a Holly Hobbie toy dryer (TOO SMALL)! The dryer is constantly filled with wet (Probably a problem with the steam function), BURNT, lint!!! INSIDE!!! It has lost the fan belt and overheated 3 times causing near fires. We found large chunks of black burnt lint inside of it. It would stop dryer clothes, leak water…..you tell me….from underneath….Now the belt is off again but this time the bolt and screw that hold it on is stripped so there is no home repair. It is such a fire hazard anyway—there should never be that much lint and water in a dryer!!!!!

IF I can bypass the safety thing on my microwave oven, can I use it as a hair dryer

I need help fixing my dryer

August 3rd, 2010 by admin

I got an older hand me down clothes dryer (electric). Its a Montgomery Ward model #UAN7203808.
A few times when I use it the thing squeaks. Then sometimes it goes for weeks with out squeaking. Does anyone have any ideas to fix it rather then paying a boat load of money for a repair guy? Thanks.

I have to glue the felt gasket that surrounds the lint trap in my gas dryer back into place…

I am worried that regular glue may get overheated and possibly start a fire. Any suggestions as to what type of glue might be best for such a repair? thanks….
